If you’re getting started with online marketing, these 5 tips should help you become successful online:
1) Focus on Local Keywords
First of all, identify the reach of your business – is it local or national? If it’s local, make sure to include keywords and the name of your city. For example, if you’re running a restaurant in San Diego, use local keywords like “best restaurants in San Diego” instead of “best restaurants in US.”
Why should you target local keywords?
The answer is simple: if you cannot even serve you own place, how will you serve customers spread throughout the US?
Another objective of using local keyword on your website is to ISOLATE your competitors and find out what actually drives MORE traffic (business) to your site.
Remember, website traffic is useless if it doesn’t bring customers for YOU.
2) Use Longtail Keywords
Another way to isolate your competitors from the market is to focus on building a keyword list that is more specific, especially if you are competing against the national market.
For example, instead of using generic keywords such as “dance classes,” focus on specific keywords such as “salsa dance class in Seattle,” or “best yoga classes in San Diego.”
Focusing on long tail keyword will help your visitors know exactly what you offer – i.e. core products and services you offer to them.
Try to come up with as many keyword variables as possible and narrow it down according to its search volume. You can use tools such as orahreff.com and opensiteexplorer.org to see who is using what keywords to pull traffic to their site.
If you’re a beginner, you want to target keywords that have low search volume at first to get quick rankings. But if you’re a big player in the industry, you may want to target keywords that have high search volume. Just be realistic while assessing your potential to outrank your competitors with the keywords you’ll select for getting search engine rankings.
3) Meta Tags – Title, Descriptions, Keywords
Type any search phrase in search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing and you’ll see the search engine page display “title tags” as the bold header text and meta description tags as the description right underneath the title tag.
These two meta tags are therefore extremely important to compel your users to clickthrough your website.
So try to include both your local and longtail keywords (as discussed above) in the “title” and “metadescriptoin” tag of each page on your website, including your blog posts.
If you’re using WordPress site, you can easily insert keywords using All in One SEO Pack plugin (free).
4) Optimze Content
Optimize your web page and blog posts in a way that it doesn’t interfere with the FLOW and compromise the quality.
In other words, do NOT stuff keywords just to make it relevent for search users. Keyword stuffing will not only annoy your visitors, but it also discourage them from converting. Stuffing keywords also sends red flags to search engines, which prefer organic content. Organic content genuinely speaks a lot about a given topic.
Therefore, write your page/blog(s) as if you’re having a conversation with your readers so that your keywords flow seamlessly throughout the content. Also on each page, try to include at least 3 variations of your main keyword. To ensure that you get extra SEO score, try to hyperlink these keywords internally. In other words, let those keywords lead your visitors from one page to another on your website.
5) Measure Web Page Load Speed
Last but not the least, check how fast your web page/blogs loads. For instance, if it takes more than 6 seconds, search engines will dump your site. We suggest that you use images with resolution no more than 70 dpi as anything higher will take unnecessary upload time that usual.
Likewise, limit the usage of images on your website to minimum. One or two images on a page should do fine. By understanding the importance of page load speed, you can easily maximize the success level of your online business.
